Naming Your Nanny Agency: What You Need to Know Before You Decide.

“What’s the name of your agency?”

This will probably be one of the first questions people around you will ask when you start telling others about your new nanny agency business.

Names have meaning and are representations of who and what your business is to the world. Knowing this can make choosing the right name for your business feel daunting. Just like a couple naming their baby, it may take a while to find an agreeable name that suits your agency. This is a matter you don’t want to take lightly.

While you can absolutely be creative in choosing your agency’s name, there are also some guidelines to be aware of. To get started, ask yourself the following questions before you decide on a nanny agency name.

Can People Remember Your Agency’s Name?

Have you ever seen a name–a person’s or a business’—and had difficulty figuring out how to pronounce it? Maybe you said it one way the first time and another way the next. Forget about trying to spell it from memory!

Now think about this concept in terms of your agency and make sure your chosen agency’s name is as easy as possible for people to remember. You certainly don’t want others to struggle to read, pronounce, or spell its name.

To make the name as simple as possible, it’s best not to use words from another language. Naming your business is not necessarily the best time to show off your French skills. It’s also probably best not to have an agency name that is too long. The longer the name, the more difficult it is to remember and correctly communicate.

Help others remember your nanny agency’s name by making it memorable! Catchy names stand out and are pleasing to say. Think about brand names like White House Nannies, Westside Nannies, or Homework Solutions.

Having a name that people can remember becomes a benefit for your business. After all, as your business gains momentum, your agency has the potential to become a regular referral in your community, so the name of your agency shouldn’t be complicated!

Have You Done Your Research?

When choosing your nanny agency’s name, you should also consider your target audience. Characteristics of your agency, including its name, can influence who your agency attracts.

Think about the types of potential families and nanny candidates who will be drawn to work with you by your name and what it represents. To dig deeper into this concept when considering your agency as a whole, take some time to reflect and establish your core values. I also highly suggest asking family and friends their thoughts on the names you are leaning towards to help you with narrowing down the perfect name. You can also consult anyone within your network to discuss your considerations and get feedback. Consider using a survey to gather data about the names that resonate well with your network and your target audience.

Is Your Agency’s Name Available?

Finally, once you have narrowed down a name for your agency, you have to check that it is available to use in your state and isn’t already trademarked.

In addition to names that are still available after this initial research, check to see if your desired name is available to purchase as a domain so your future website will match your agency’s name. If your search says that your name is already in use, then you will need to either modify the name or choose another name entirely.

Naming Your Agency is Just the Beginning

Names hold a lot of power and meaning, and the name that you choose for your agency is no different. A well thought-out name that is simple and easy to remember will do wonders for your business and help bring referrals to you. Take your time to do your research and brainstorm agency names. Once you have some ideas, you can then check to make sure that they are available for use.
